USIC World Championship Cross-Country ended
by a convincing victory of the Russian sportsmen!

     Sport delegations from Russia, Switzerland, France, Norway, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Poland, and Finland took part in the competitions.
     Russian National railwaymen team was formed according to the results of the Championship of Russian sport club “Lokomotiv”, which finished on December 6, in Kemerovo. The team includes Mikhail Aivazov, Artem Malofeev, Artem Zhmurko, Alexander Bessmertnykh, Alexei Dgumov, Dmitry Derbin, Vitalij Chernov, and Konstantin Bakulev.
     The program of the Championship included 15 km and 30 km mass-starts of classic technique and freestyle, and a relay of 4x10 km. However, due to hard frost the program changed: 30 km freestyle race was shortened to 15 km. The winner of the race – Artem Zhmurko, the second place was conquered by Alexander Bessmertnykh, the third – by Dmitry Derbin.
     Russian skiers kept their leading positions also in the freestyle race that was won by Alexander Bessmertnykh; Artem Zhmurko was the second, Alexei Dgumov – the third.
     On the last day of the competitions each country was presented by two teams in the 4x10 km relay, second teams were out of rating. The main Russian relay team consisted of Dmitry Derbin, Mikhail Aivazov, Vitalij Chernov, and Alexei Dgumov. And again no one could compare to Russian athletes. The gold was taken by Russia, silver – by Norway, and bronze – by skiers from Finland.
      Press-conference was carried out on December 19, in “Demino”, including Johan Braber, USIC Executive Secretary, Tatiana Olkhova, Chief of “Lokomotiv” sport directorate, Andrei Arsenyev, Race Director, and Andrei Vyskrebentsev, representative of the Organizing Committee.
