Pursuit race of men cancelled

Due to the low temperature of – 21,7 C the Pursuit race for the men in Rybinsk (RUS) had to be cancelled.  The decision for the ladies competition will be done at 14.00h local time (12.00 CET).

“The temperature limit for a Cross-Country race is -20, unfortunately we couldn’t reach it so far so consequently we had to cancel the men’s Pursuit. For sure it is a pity, but the health of the athletes is the most import point,” stated Jürg Capol, FIS Race Director.

With the fourth place, Aino Kaisa Saarinen increased again her over World Cup lead to 1220 points. Petra Majdic, who won today the B-Final, has now 1090 points and Virpi Kuitunen is third with 1069 points. Quotes:

Pirjo Muranen (FIN):

“It was a great race today and I am really satisfied about my victory. It makes fun to ski here in front of this big and fair audience. My skies were good and I tried to bring me always on the last uphill in a good position that I could attack on the finish straight. With the cold temperatures I had no problems in the final heats – I felt it only a bit in the qualification – maybe I am used to it.”

Arianna Follis (ITA):

“Again on the podium – that is perfect. I had in the qualification not so good ski’s and I was only 14th, that made me not so confident and I decided to change the ski’s for the final heats. It was a good decision and I am happy to be again on the podium.”

 Magda Genuin (ITA):

“My second podium ever – I’m really happy about it. It makes fun to race here, the tracks are great and fit’s me well. I like this kind of courses. I had as well good skies during the entire race – what was one key point for the today’s podium spot. The audience here is only awesome.”

 Renato Pasini (ITA)

“I was 30th in the qualification – I changed my skies and went straight through into the final. For sure I am happy about my victory, I love Rybinsk - I love Russia! I would like to dedicate this victory to our friend Alexei Prokurorov who died in the October in an accident. I met him only a few days before this stupid accident in Ramsau. For the World Championships my focus is for sure on the sprint – I hope to show there a great performance.”

 Alexei Petukhov (RUS)

“I have to say thank you to all the spectators, the OC and everybody to help me to be able to finish today on the podium. It is my first podium in an individual race – in a team race I was already there. It is great to have such good results in the home country and I am really proud. I was not so strong in the Qualification and because of this also not sure if I can manage a podium today – but it worked out ;-)”

Anton Gafarov (RUS)

“I’m satisfied with my first ever World Cup podium, I won the qualification and saw that I am able to make today a good result here in Rybinsk. I like the course and the audience – that gives a lot of power. I hope I will also the one or other time in this season back on the top three.”

Quotes:

Marianna Longa (ITA):

“Our race was fantastic. I am very happy. Its my second podium but the first ever victory. I can’t express what I feel, I’m just so happy. My skies were really fast today. So after the last downhill I just went and went forward. The audience here is amazing. It is so emotional!”

 Arianna Follis (ITA):

“It is a great day for us, Marianna and I made for the first time since 13 years a double victory by finished first and second for Italy. That is amazing. We like Rybinsk, it seems a lucky place for us. The course is difficult and has tough uphills, especially when you come to the finish you have to be in the second or third on the top of the last uphill to have a chance to make the victory. Beside the course, Marianna and I are friends and I’m really happy not only about my second place but also for her victory."

Stefanie Böhler (GER):

“The tactic was to get a good position in the leading group. I’m very satisfied about my podium place in an individual competition – it is my first one. Everything works fine at the moment. I feel very confident and looking now forward to the next two races here in Rybinsk. Afterwards we will go to the training camp in Toblach (ITA) and make the last preparations for the World Championship. I hope we all stay healthy that the team can make a good result there.”

Tobias Angerer (GER)

“I’m glad about my victory. It is great to be back on the podium after a long period. I felt good during the race and I knew also that you have to be among the first 5 in the last uphill to have a chance to win. Well, I had a long period of illness and now I hope I’m back for the World Championship in Liberec. My main goal there is to get a medal.”

Jean Marc Gaillard (FRA)

The today’s second place is great – I had a really good race with good skies like everybody in my team and everything went well. It is great to ski here with this audience and on this courses which are pretty nice. Two podiums within 2 weeks, that is amazing and I just enjoy it – the World Championships are for me a bit far to think about it, I first concentrate me on my next race on Sunday.”

Sergei Dolidovich (BLR)

“I’m very satisfied about my race and the podium place. I try to stay in the leading group in the entire race and then I was able to attack on the finish straight. I feel sorry that I edged the home favourite Legkov out of the podium but I am happy about my success as well.”
